NansheDeity of the Day: Nanshe is the sumerian goddess of social justice, prophecy, fertility and fishing. She was given dominion over the Persian Gulf, and all animals within, by her father Enki, and is heavily associated with fish and fishing. She is said to help those in need, such as orphans, widows, those in debt, and refugees. Her priests interpreted the dreams of men, granting them the ability to give oracular messages/determine future. Her two major symbols are fish, representing her original role as a water/fishing deity, and the pelican which represents her role as protector/care-giver. Her secondary function was to ensure shipments of fish reached the mainland.
